SD (VCSUVikings.com)- Valley City State University’s Megan Johnson and Isaiah Tivis have been named North Star Athletic Association Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Johnson and Tivis both had two first-place finishes in their collegiate track debuts Saturday at the Bemidji State Super 8 Open. Johnson was named the Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, while Tivis was named the Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

North Star Athletic Association Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week: Megan Johnson – Valley City State (N.D.) – Junior – Enderlin, N.D. – Johnson won two events in her collegiate track debut at NCAA Division II Bemidji State (Minn.) Super 8 meet for Valley City State (N.D.).  She took first in both the long jump (4.93 meters – 16 feet, 2.25 inches) and triple jump (10.14 meters – 33 feet, 3.25 inches).

North Star Athletic Association Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week: Isaiah Tivis – Valley City State (N.D.) – Freshman – Colorado Springs, Colo. – Tivis won two events for Valley City State (N.D.) in his collegiate track debut at NCAA Division II Bemidji State (Minn.) Super 8 meet.  He bested a field of 14 runners to win the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.91 seconds.  Tivis then ran the third leg on VCSU’s winning 4 x 400-meter relay and finished with a time of 3 minutes, 41.49 seconds.  He also took fourth in the 60-meter dash in 7.48 seconds.

North Star Athletic Association Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week: Abby Honeyman – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Junior – Regent, N.D. – Honeyman set a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles for Dickinson State (N.D.) in the Myrle Hanson Invitational, hosted by NCAA Division II Black Hills State (S.D.).  She clocked a time of 9.17 seconds to claim the women’s 60-meter hurdles title, where a total of 10 hurdlers competed.  Honeyman also competed in the long jump and earned second-place with a measurement of 4.99 meters.

North Star Athletic Association Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week: Jay Liggins – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Sophomore – Bismarck, N.D. – Liggins captured a pair of jumping titles for Dickinson State (N.D.) at the Myrle Hanson Invitational, hosted by NCAA Division II Black Hills State (S.D.).  He leaped a measurement of 13.12 meters (43 feet, 0.5 inches) to capture the triple jump event.  Liggins also jumped a measurement of 6.53 meters (21 feet, 5.25 inches) to win the long jump title.

Looking Ahead

Dakota State (S.D.), Valley City State (N.D.) and Waldorf (Iowa) are scheduled to compete in South Dakota State Division 2 Open on Friday.  On the same day, Jamestown (N.D.) travels to St. Paul, Minn. as they participate in the St. Thomas (Minn.) Showcase Open.

Viterbo (Wis.) is slated to attend the University of Wisconsin-Stout Open on Saturday.  Dickinson State (N.D.) will be heading to Spearfish, S.D. for the second straight weekend as they compete in the Black Hills State Alumni meet.
