CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Weather conditions were perfect this winter for the snagging and clearing of trees along the Sheyenne River.

Barnes County Water Resource District Board Chairman Jerry Hieb said the contractor made a lot of progress this year due to superb weather conditions.

Hieb asked the Barnes County Commission during their February 7th meeting if they could appropriate more funding to get more work done this year.

Commissioner John Froehlich said extra funding wasn’t approved during the regular budgeting process last year. But he said it may be a good idea to spend a few more dollars now to get more work done before spring flooding hits the area.

The following is audio from the Barnes County Commission February 7th meeting featuring Hieb’s request and Froehlich’s response.

The Barnes County Commission approved of spending $25,000 from the general fund so they could receive a $25,000 match from the state to extend the project while weather conditions permitted during their February 7th meeting.

The item is on the regular Barnes County Commission meeting agenda for Tuesday, February 21st at around 8:30 a.m.
