N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The abandoned Zion Lutheran Church in Nome owned by Craig Cobb is gone. A fire destroyed the church on March 22nd.

Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin said the structure was fully engulfed in flames when deputies, Fingal and Nome firefighters arrived on the scene.

Nome Fire Chief Randy Langland said the cause of the fire is under investigation with the State Fire Marshall. No one was inside the structure and no injuries were reported. He talked to reporter Steve Urness after the fire was under control.

The abandon church was purchased by Craig Cobb. He became well known after he purchased property in Leith and Antler North Dakota and attempted to turn those towns into enclaves for white supremacists according to reports filed by the Associated Press and other media outlets across the state.

Cobb told WDAY news that the fire is 100 percent arson and he is offering a $2,000 reward for information related to this fire. He said he considers the fire a direct threat on his life.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A white supremacist who unsuccessfully tried to turn the small North Dakota town of Leith into an all-white enclave says he thinks the burning of a building he recently bought in the town of Nome was arson.

Craig Cobb says there was nothing flammable in the 108-year-old church building, and that it had no electricity.

Cobb says he bought the building for $8,000 and estimates his total loss at more than double that amount because he had moved in some furniture.

Cobb is serving four years of probation for terrorizing and menacing residents of Leith in 2013. He currently lives in Sherwood, and says he has no plans to keep the property in Nome.
