CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The city of Valley City is moving forward on the next phase of permanent flood protection that focuses on protecting downtown Valley City. The construction work will center on Main Street between 5th Avenue and Central Avenue this year.

KLJ engineer Chad Petersen said bids will be let next week for the second phase as well as a paving improvement project. He said the bids for the next phase of permanent flood protection will be opened on Tuesday, March 28th at 2pm in City Hall and on Wednesday, March 29th at 2pm in City Hall for a paving improvement project.

City Administrator David Schelkoph said the city has $22 million dollars for this phase of permanent flood protection, of that, $6 million will be used for the buyout phase of 21 properties.

In other news, Valley City Mayor Dave Carlsrud said city crews will do a practice run this spring setting up existing flood walls in Valley City.
