N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Several community projects will be moving forward this year in Jamestown.

During a special Jamestown City Council meeting, plans and specifications along with the authorization for bids in the construction of 20th Street SW were approved. The road will connect Menards to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Steve Aldinger with Interstate Engineering provided details for the project. The road will have be three lanes with a center turn lane, have connections for water on future projects, and will have a speed limit of 35 mph. Bids will be advertised and will be opened on April 14th. 

Aldinger reports that the road will be built to specifications in the Jamestown Land Use & Transportation Plan.

The project was unanimously approved.

Another road project in the works is the paving project for 5th Street, in front of the Two Rivers Activity Center. Ben Aaseth with Interstate Engineering gave the latest information.

The area will be ADA compliant for the visually impaired. Bids will be opened the same day as the Menards to JRMC Road. The council approved.

The last large item of discussion during the special council meeting was approval of amendments and agreements for recycling implementation. The name was changed to the Recycling Center of North Dakota and contract items that have been changed were read to the council.

Mayor Katie Andersen also reported that the contract will wave penalties and fees for the first six months of recycling. Renegotiations can also take place at any time and either party can elect to extend the start up date past July 1st, 2017 if necessary. The council voted in approval, with Councilman Dan Buchanan voting in opposition.
