N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Freshman – Parker Larson, 5th grader – Ethan Miller, 3rd grader – Jacob Simpson and Pre-schooler – Kallen Hansen all captured a North Dakota Folkstyle State Championship this past weekend in Bismarck.

Hansen kicked off the individual action for Express on Friday night winning his championship match 13-9 over Blake Sandness of Bismarck in the Sub Bantam 40 lb division.

Saturday morning, Ethan Miller collected two pins and a major decision in dominating fashion before he beat Grady Anderson of Jamestown 6-1 in the Novice 85 lb championship.  This is Ethans 4th state title in Folkstyle.

Next, Jacob Simpson captured the Intermediate 62.5 division state championship when he beat Cole Mogen of Kenmare in a victory overtime 4-2 in the championship match.

Finally, Saturday afternoon, Parker Larson won his state championship in the Cadet 138 lb division.  Larson pinned Trevor McClanahan of Minot in the final (3:41).

Over 1000 wrestlers across the state participated in the event, Valley City entered 27.

Koltyn Grebel took 2nd place and fell a match short of collecting his third consecutive state championship losing in the quarter finals (7-5).  Koltyn battled his way back through the consolation bracket to earn a “true 2nd” winning his next five matches all by pins.  Grebel had a total of 6 pins with a total time of 8:32 which earned him 1st place with the best individual states record for the “most pins with the least amount of time” at the state tournament out of the 1000+ wrestlers that participated.

Koye Grebel (Novice – 80 lbs) and Ryer Muske (Intermediate – 95 lbs) placed second, both losing narrow matches in the finals.

Also placing for Express Wrestling were:  Carter Coghlan 3rd place – Sub Bantam 35 lbs, Gabby Hannig 3rd place – Intermediate Girls Division 50 lbs, Tyson Klabo 5th place – Intermediate 62.5 lbs, Alex Roglestad 5th place – Novice 100 lbs, Jonah Schuldheisz 3rd place – Schoolboy 120 lb, Bennett Rogelstad 4th place – Cadet 100 lb and Austin Rogelstad 3rd place – Cadet 106 lb.

Coming up short from placing but putting in great efforts included:  Sub Bantams: Wyatt Maresh, Zach Anderson, Bantams: Chase Coghlan & Zaydyn Cluchie, Intermediate: Hunter Undem, Novice: Tucker Johnson, Jeremy Hatcher, Khy Cluchie, Will Schwehr, Jackson Eisen and Schoolboys: Tyson Hovland and Broden Muske.
