MN (VCSUVikings.com)- The Valley City State baseball team suffered a 7-6 loss Wednesday during a non-conference game at the University of Minnesota-Morris.

The Vikings led 5-1 after the fifth inning, but the Cougars rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 6-5 lead. VCSU tied the game in the seventh on an RBI single from Nate Bagby. Morris went on to win the game in walk-off fashion with a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth.

VCSU drops to 8-18 overall. The Vikings will resume conference play this weekend by hosting University of Winnipeg for doubleheaders on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon.

Shaun Kourajian started on the mound Wednesday for the Vikings and gave VCSU five strong innings. The sophomore right-hander allowed just two hits and one run in five innings on the mound. He walked two and struck out three.

The Vikings finished with six runs on 12 hits. VCSU’s defense committed three errors – including two in the sixth inning that led to two unearned runs. Morris finished with seven runs on 11 hits and did not commit an error.

Nate Soulis went 3-for-5 with a run and two RBIs to lead the Viking offense. Anthony Necochea also went 3-for-5, and Tyler Ukestad drove in two runs. Joe Demers added a pair of hits.

Up next: Valley City State (8-18, 2-2 NSAA) resumes conference play this weekend with a four-game home series against University of Winnipeg (2-19, 0-4 NSAA). Saturday’s doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. and Sunday’s games start at noon at Charlie Brown Memorial Baseball Field.
