(NewsDakota.com) KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com have been named as finalists in the 2016 AP Great Plains Broadcast Contest.

KDDR was selected in the Division II Radio group twice in the sports category for an interview with Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm head football coach Jon Schiele the week of their 2016 State Championship game, and a conversation with University of North Dakota President Mark Kennedy shortly after the announcement of the eventual budget cuts that came to the athletics program.

NewsDakota.com was also named a Division II finalist in the website category. Division II consists of stations in North and South Dakota, along with Nebraska in markets such as Fargo, Bismarck, Sioux Falls and Omaha.

20 radio and television outlets submitted 231 entries in the contest which featured news, feature and sports stories from 2016.

KDDR and NewsDakota.com have now been recognized 12 times by the Associated Press since 2014. The exact order of finalists in the various categories (first, second and third place) will be announced next week.
