N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The contract has been signed and residential recycling is set to start this summer in Jamestown.

Ralph Friebel with the Recycle Center of North Dakota has been working with the city of Jamestown to bring recycling to the residents. Friebel reports that the newly integrated system will give residents a recycling bin and a choice between a small, medium or large container for garbage.

The cost of recycling will be almost unnoticeable for residents. Friebel says the “Pay-As-You-Throw” program will have no additional fees and the price will depend on which garbage container the resident selects.

Friebel says the cost for a small container will be roughly 15 cents lower than what residents pay now, medium will be five cents and a large container roughly two dollars more. He says this is to entice individuals to recycle more.

Once carts are delivered to residents, a brochure and calendar will be included to help residents understand what can and can’t be recycled and what days pickup will be for garbage and recycling.

Friebel says recycling will still be accepted at their operations center in Jamestown. Glass will not be picked up because it could shatter on pickup and would contaminate the rest of the recyclables.

Information sessions have been planned for the area and will start Thursday, April 20th at the University of Jamestown. They will also be held at the Jamestown Civic Center during the Home & Garden Show April 22nd and 23rd. All are free and open to the public.
