N.D.  (NewsDakota.com)  Sophomore’s Payton Smith and Kyle Leapaldt had two hits each to help the Cardinals secure their second Region 3 victory yesterday over the Mustangs of Midkota/Dakota Prairie, 7-1.  Carrington improves to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in R3, MDP drops to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in R3.  

Leapaldt also picked up his first victory of the year on the mound (1-0) working 5 1/3 innings, allowing just three hits, five strikeouts, five walks and one unearned run.  Taking the loss was Junior Eric Salvesen, working six innings, six runs, eight hits, five strikeouts and one walk.  Senior Braxton Hewitt for Carrington was 1-for-1 at the plate with a double, was intentionally walked twice, hit by pitch once and scored two runs.  Of the five Mustang hits, one hit each for Hunter Gibson, Salvesen, Hunter Sand, Cole Varnson and Isaac Smith.

Next up for Carrington will be on Monday, April 24th for their first home game of the year, against Region 3 team Medina/Pingree/Buchanan, expect pregame coverage about 3:45pm on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com, first pitch at 4pm.  Next up for MDP will be today (April 21) in Hatton against non-region opponent Hatton/Northwood.
