N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Residents from Jamestown to West Fargo were unable to call out long distance after a CenturyLink cable was cut Friday afternoon on April 21st.

Century Link reports that the hardest hit area was Valley City, with reports of landlines being unable to call out of the city. AT&T, Verizon and CenturyLink customers were unable to connect with other networks in the region.

Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist reported that administrative lines for Stutsman County Communications were also down. He also pointed out that 911 calls were still able to be received thanks to a system set up between Stutsman, Barnes and Richland counties.

CenturyLink spokesperson Rachel Woodman reported that damage would be repaired as soon as possible Friday. The line was cut due to a third party contractor and caused outages for around four hours.

Bergquist stated that it’s always important to call 811 before you dig.
