CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Voters in the Maple Valley School District defeated a school bond issue during a special election on April 25th.

The measure failed by receiving 58.8 percent of the vote. A school bond issue needs to receive 60 percent or more to pass.

Maple Valley School District Superintendent Brian Wolf said 544 voters approved of the measure while 381 voted no on the bond issue.

The measure had asked patrons to support a $14.3 million dollar bonding issue that would have shut-down two schools and pay for an addition and renovation of the existing structure in Tower City.

In September of 2016, voters narrowly defeated the referendum as those who supported it voted 59.76 percent in favor.

This was the fourth attempt by the Maple Valley school district to pass a referendum to consolidate the district into one building.
