CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The negotiating process with teachers and other members of the Valley City Public School District who make up a nine member Health Insurance Committee known as (HIC) showed signs of being strained during a regular school board meeting on April 12th.

At issue is what the school district should do with the current health insurance plan: One option is to leave it the same, another would make a few changes. The committee is still working out those differences and or agreements.

One of the members representing the committee is teacher William “Buff” Murray he and school board members Ryan Mathias and Rich Schueneman talked about the process.

After that exchange, Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Josh Johnson had this response and encouraged everyone to “do what is best for the district.”

The Health Insurance Committee will meet on Wednesday, April 26th at 7:30am in the administration building board meeting room.

In 2014, the Valley City School District and the Valley City Education Association agreed to form a 9-member Health Insurance Committee know as (HIC) to work on finding the best health care coverage all those work in the school district.

The health insurance issue was a major sticking point back in the fall of 2013 that led to an 8 month impasse before members of the Valley City School District and the Valley City Education Association reached a settlement in May of 2014.
