TOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Two people are dead following a head-on semi collision near New Town on May 6th.

The state Highway Patrol reports that a Frac sand semi was traveling westbound and a crude oil semi was traveling eastbound on the Highway 23 bypass on the north edge of New Town. Both trucks were fully loaded and negotiating a curve.

The Frac sand semi entered the eastbound land, causing both trucks to collide head-on. The crude oil semi jackknifed in the roadway and started on fire. The other semi overturned and came to rest upright in the ditch. Both vehicles burned completely.

The crash remains under investigation and both names are being withheld pending notification.
