Coach’s Comments

Without our #3 and #6 and our true #4 trying to play sick, we put up one good fight today against a good team.  In fact, if we were able to win just the three-set matches today, we would have won without three of our top seven players.  But – today’s score is what it is and we fell 7-2.

Reagan continues to figure out her game.  She counter punched in singles beautifully playing a lot of defense and letting Forknell make the error.  She stayed mentally tough throughout singles and doubles and just played tennis.  It was impressive to watch.

Cali continues to improve physically and mentally each time playing a match.  She has already turned one big corner as she used to play tight all the time and now she plays loose a lot of the time.  The next big step is to find the way to play loose all the time regardless of the score or situation.  I know she can do this even though this coach wasn’t able to do that until after college.

Angela and Katie played some great doubles together.  They were moving, putting balls away, and keeping the racket ready.  I would even venture to say Katie played the best she ever has and had a fun time doing so with Angela.  Angela tried to fight through illness, but her health is more important than tennis so we defaulted her singles match.

Hannah and Kallie had a roller coaster match in doubles.  They were up 5-2 in the first set and lost it.  They were down 5-2 in the second set and won it.  In the third, they lost by a break.  Kallie has improved so much in season – her movement in doubles, her shot selection, her put away shots, and her belief in herself and her shots – amazing.  Hannah had the best singles match of her career.  She was extremely consistent and persistent.  She moved the ball around.  She was patiently aggressive.  Her footwork was the best ever leading to many 30 stroke rallies.  It was fun tennis to watch.

Kayla and Haley played at #5 and #6 respectively tonight.  Kayla continues to gain experience each time and is learning on the court how to stay in points and win points.  Haley played her first varsity match of her career and handled it with poise and a positive attitude.  She worked hard the entire match and took coaching well.  Great first match, Haley.
