N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Trails4Transplants is a long-distance, multiple week long trail ride to raise awareness about organ, eye, and tissue donation.

This week, the trek is making it’s way through the area.

“Approximately 40 riders from as far away as Florida and Louisiana came to the “Trails4Transplants donor awareness ride,” stated Gene Hanson of Edgeley. “The ride started at Edgeley on Sunday and will end in Bird Island, Minnesota, a distance of 320 miles.”

According to the website, a minimum contribution cost of $2 will be collected per mile to promote the cause and supply water for horses as well as finding daily staging areas.

“The future of T4T is to continue to ride across North Dakota, through parts of Montana, circle down and across South Dakota, ride across Minnesota and end up in Rochester at Gift of Life Transplant House, where a portion of the T4T proceeds have gone to benefit transplant recipients. The goal is to make a 2000-mile total journey over a six year time span (2013-2018),” the website states.

The group hopes to cover upwards of 25 miles a day to reach their final destination in the next two weeks.

The ride is expected to take through June 4th. You can click here to read more about the history of the ride.
