N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Fargo North scored 9 of their 10 runs with 2 outs and pulled ahead with a big 6 run 3rd to beat Valley City 10-7 in the opening round of The EDC Softball Tournament Thursday in Fargo. The Spartans advance to the championship semifinals Friday at 6 against Sheyenne, The Hi-Liners will play Shanley in an elimination game at noon.  North got on the scoreboard first with a two out RBI double from Sami Trana in the bottom of the 1st inning. Becca Thompson gave Valley City the lead with a 2 run home run in the 2nd. The score would stand until the 3rd. With two outs The Spartans produced 6 runs on 4 hits and took advantage of 2 Hi-Liner errors to go ahead 7-2. 

Valley City cut into North’s lead with a home run to straight away center from Emily Murray in the 4th and run in the 5th. With the game at 7-4, The Spartans added 3 more runs in the 5th to pull ahead 10-4. Needing 6 runs to keep the game going Valley City started the 7th with back to back singles from Thompson and pinch hitter Jayda Haugen. An error allowed Thompson to come home and Haugen scored on a ground out by Kacee White. Down to their final strike Mackenzie Pederson hit a double that brought home Eliza Schueneman bringing the score to 10-7. North starter Sami Trana was able to force a pop up to second to get the final out and end the game. 

Trana got the complete game win with 7 strike outs allowing 4 earned runs. Thompson lasted 2.1, just 1 of the 7 runs allowed were earned. Hailey Schaefer pitched the final 3.1 giving 3 runs on 4 hits with 4Ks. 

Thompson was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs, Kacee White brought in 2 runs. Trana helped her own cause leading North with 3 hits and 2 RBI.
