N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Ben Friebel matched Century starter Ian McDonald pitch for pitch over seven innings at the West Region baseball tournament in Minot. The one thing he didn’t do is make an error with a runner on third base; McDonald did and that was all Friebel needed. The Jamestown senior made a 1-0 score hold up as the 7th-seeded Jays upset seconded-seeded Century.

In the third inning with Drew Murray at third base, McDonald’s wild pick-off thrown to first scored the game’s only run. Murray had the Jays lone hit earlier in the inning.

The two pitchers combined to face just three over the minimum over seven incredible innings. McDonald allowed just one hit and struck out eight. Friebel struck out five while giving up two hits.

The game was played in just one hour and 14 minutes after starting two hours and 45 minutes late.

Jamestown moves to the West Region semifinals for the first time since 2013 and will play Minot at 6:30pm. You can listen to the coverage on ESPN Jamestown
