N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Hi-Liner softball jumped out to an early 7-0 lead en route to a 7-2 win over Red River in a state tournament qualifying game. Valley City returns to state as the 4 seed out of the east, they face the east’s top seed Bismarck Thursday night at 6:30 in Mandan. After Saturday’s EDC Championship game conference awards were handed out and Mackenzie Pederson was named to The All EDC Team.

For the 1st time in the tournament The Hi-Liners opened scoring. In top of the 1st Emily Murray had an RBI ground out and Kacee White scored on an error. Three runs came home in the 2nd and 2 runs in the 4th. Red River got both runs in the 4th with a wild pitch and RBI hit from Haylie Kinneberg. The Roughriders weren’t without their chances, they stranded 9 runners leaving the bases loaded in the 5th.

Hailey Schafer went the distance for the 2nd day in a row, in 7 innings she allowed 6 hits with 4 walks and a strike out. Roughriders starter Kiera Bohan also went all 7, she surrendered 8 hits with a strike out. She was hampered by 6 Red River errors. 

Murray led the game with 2 RBI. Kacee White and Becca Thompson both went 3 for 4. Schafer had an RBI. In her final game as a Roughrider senior Gabby Nuelle was 3 for 4 with a stolen base.
