Coach’s Comments

To play on day 2 of the individual tournament, you can’t lose twice on day 1.  Katie and Angela both went 0-2 in singles while Hannah and Hannah went 1-2 in doubles to end their individual tournament.  A great consolation is that we state qualified as a team so they still have another week of tennis yet!  Hannah and Hannah played a couple of great matches beating Fargo South’s true #2 doubles team and then hung with Shanley’s #1 doubles team throughout the match.  Great work!

Breanna played 10 sets last year on this date and failed to make the state qualifier.  This year, she cruised in her first match and then lined up with the #8 seed Sophie Welsch.  Sophie beat Cali, our #2, in the regular season so we knew this was going to be a tight match.  In the first set, Bre and Sophie both played some great points and then also had totally unforced errors. It went to a tiebreaker.  Up 4-3 in the breaker, Bre had two monster first serves to go up 6-3 and then finished off the set.  Starting the second set, Bre maintained her high level of play and Sophie dropped off a notch leading to an easy second set victory.  Bre made the quarterfinals and played the #1 seed in a state qualifier.  She lost that match, but it does set up a consolation quarterfinal state qualifying match at 9am Saturday at Courts Plus against Sophie Keelin from Shanley.  Good luck Bre!

Reagan and Cali earned the #1 seed in the tournament by finishing 7-1 in the EDC season.  In their first two matches, they played like a #1 seed to state qualify and guarantee themselves no worse than 4th in the tournament.  Saturday at about 10:30am, they play a very good team in the semifinals of Pooja Chemiti and Annie McIntosh from West Fargo Sheyenne that is the #5 seed.  From here on out, every team is great and we need to be ready and on top of our game to be able to give ourselves a shot to win.  Good luck!
