Coach’s Comments
We came out with the the right line-up against Minot, but they clipped us today.  Then against Century, we had a couple different line-ups we could have used, but went with the line-up that gave us a shot at winning the most matches but fell short.

We lost one tight match against Minot and one against Century where it came down to one point to keep the match alive and we didn’t get it.  Cali stormed back in the 2nd set against Minot to get to down 4-5 and got to the deuce point.   In the Bismarck Century match, Hannah dropped the first set 6-2 and fought all the way to 5-6 in the 2nd set tiebreaker.  We were right there.  Great job ladies on playing as the underdog and giving it everything you got!

Reagan beat the 2nd place finisher in the WDA against Minot in quick order and Bre dispatched the 5th place qualifier from the west as well.  Both doubles played very well, but were pitted against 1/2 of the WDA doubles champions along with another state qualifier.  Cali turned it on in the second set, moving her feet and playing more consistent and giving her all.  We came up just short against the #1 seed from the west.  I’m proud of you all.

On the consolation side, Century has Stoppler at #1 who was the WDA champion.  We played around Stoppler by dropping Reagan into doubles.  With the line-up, Stoppler was the favorite against Cali, but we gave ourselves a shot to win the other four matches.  Bre along with Reagan and Hannah D. won in straight sets meaning we needed one more match to make it to the consolation championship.  Angela and Kallie came from a set down to force a third set.  Hannah A. lost the first set 6-2 and fought back to force a tiebreaker in the second.  In the end, Century got the win ending our team season.

I am very proud of our team and what we accomplished this year.  We graduated three out of our seven varsity from last season’s squad and still made it back to the state tournament for the fifth year in a row.  No one can ever take a state trip away from you.  Be proud of what you amazing young adults did this season!

Thanks to our fans today for the support and the support we had all season!  We had many great returning fans and families making the state trip along with several new families.  A special shout out to my mom, Mr. Johnson, and three of our JV players (Rachel, Mara, and Amber) for coming and supporting the team!

The individual tournament starts tomorrow at 10am.  Reagan and Cali earned the #2 seed from the East in doubles.  Breanna earned the #6 seed from the East in singles.  Both will play outdoors at Choice Health and Fitness at 10am Friday.
