CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Two existing businesses will be moving to a new location northwest of Valley City.

Area Economic Development Director Jennifer Feist says the Valley Development Corporation owns the building and will be spending $75,000 to remodel the structure.

Feist can’t release the names of the businesses yet, but she says they both are growing companies that need to expand.

On June 20th, the Barnes County Commission approved of releasing $27,000 to the Valley Development Corporation on a 4 to 1 vote. Commissioner Rodger Berntson voted against the motion.

Feist said the $27,000 requested on June 20th was included in the Barnes County budgeting process. She said the County (and City) have been providing $27,000 per year for several years to help the Corporation with administrative/overhead costs. The $27,000 will not be used for the two companies locating in the building.

Feist added, that the building improvements of $75,000 will be handled by the Development Corporation; loan funds have been secured through Dacotah Bank. Again she said, “we are not requesting economic development funds from the City and County for these two projects or the building improvements.

*Retraction* Earlier, Steve Urness reported that the money was going to help these two businesses for economic development, that sentence was incorrect and I apologize for the mistake I made in an earlier story. Both businesses will be paying monthly rent for the use of these facility in their lease agreement.

The companies have signed a three year lease to move into the northwest industrial park building previously occupied by Vansco.

The audio below is the extended discussion about this issue during the Barnes County Commission meeting on June 20th.
