CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A total of 40 people applied and now one has been hired.

The Valley City school board unanimously approved of hiring Michael Schultz to become the next Activities Director for the public school district. He’s is a native of Lisbon and a University of Jamestown graduate.

For the last 23 years, Schultz has taught and coached at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He worked as the department chair of the social studies department for the past 5 years. He has also coached Cross Country, Track & Field and Basketball over his teaching and coaching career. In 2015, Schultz was awarded the Distinguished Teacher of the Year.

Schultz and his wife Kellie (who is also a teacher) will be moving to Valley City next month to start his new job as the Activities Director.

Valley City Public School District Superintendent Josh Johnson said Schultz will be paid an annual salary of $80,000 plus benefits. Johnson issued this statement about Schultz during a special school board meeting on June 26th. Click on his response below.
