WISHEK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Top seeded Valley City scored 5 unanswered runs to defeat Steele 5-1 in the first round of The Southeast Babe Ruth Tournament. Steele’s lone run came in the top of the 1st. Valley City scored 2 in the bottom of the 1st and added 3 in the 4th. Easton Hesch had 3 hits with 2 RBI. Avery Bennefeld and Riley Gerhardt had run producing hits and Alex Thornton had a pair of singles. Mitch Taylor pitched 6 solid innings giving up just the 1st inning run with 7 strike outs for the win. Jacob Johnson worked the final frame to get the save. Valley City’s win not only advances them to the next round but earns them a Saturday off, they will play again Sunday at noon.
