CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Barnes County Commission is making a request to the State Water Commission to help them pay for river bank erosion repairs along the Sheyenne River about eleven miles south of Valley City.

Highway Department Superintendent Kerry Johnson said a portion of County Road 21 is threatened by river bank erosion. He said a letter of request for mitigation will go to the State Water Commission. He said the agency will determine if the county qualifies for mitigation funding to repair the site.

Under the State Water Commission mitigation plan, if a government entity can show proof that additional water from the Devils Lake outlets is causing river bank erosion along the Sheyenne River and threatening infrastructure, the state will help pay to stabilize the river bank.
