N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – An annual bike run was held on August 5th to raise money for the Backpacks for Kids program.

The program was created by Community Action Region VI in 2009 to provide kids a backpack full of food for those in need. Food Pantry Coordinator Sarah Oberlander says that the program has grown in usage since then.

Oberlander reports that 18 bikes and 29 individuals raised $1,007 for the program. That’s enough to purchase at least 100 backpacks for area kids. Backpacks will be filled and distributed each weekend.
