“Tucker” Wavra, 85, of Valley City, ND died August 19, 2017 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.  A funeral mass for him will be celebrated Wednesday, August 23 at 2:00 PM.  Visitation will be in the Lerud-Schuldt-Mathias Funeral Home chapel on Tuesday from 5-7 PM.  The Rosary will be prayed beginning at 6:30 followed by a prayer service at 7:00.  Tucker will be buried at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND on Thursday, August 24 at 1:00 PM.

Darrel Thomas Wavra was born December 5, 1931 in Alice, ND, to Edward and Sadie (Wellington) Wavra.  Tucker graduated from Enderlin High School, completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Valley City State College and received his Master’s Degree from North Dakota State University.

He served in the US Navy from 1952-1956 as a flight engineer.  He was Past Commander of the Valley City VFW Post 2764.

On August 9, 1961, he married Marion Leah Gessner in Leeds, ND.  Tucker taught high school in Kathryn, ND and then became school superintendent in Ayr, ND.  In 1967, he accepted a position with American National Bank (which is now Wells Fargo) in Valley City, and worked there until retiring.

Tucker loved spending time with his family, sports and hunting.

He is survived by his loving wife, Leah of Valley City; son, Greg (Lauri) Wavra and their children, Harper and Christian of Bismarck, ND; and daughter, Jennifer (Jim) Reich and their children, Michelle and Thomas of Tulsa, OK.

Tucker was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Kent.
