CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A proposal to build an addition to the North Dakota Winter Show Event Center took another step forward after the Visitors Committee approved of a Food and Beverage Grant of $200,000 during their regular meeting on September 6th.

NDWS manager Dawn Riley said it’s nice to see this project coming together.

Visitors Committee president Bobby Koepplin said this project should be a benefit for the future of the North Dakota Winter Show.

Koepplin said $50,000 per year will be paid for four years starting in January of 2018 with the final payment in January of 2021. He said the item still has to be approved by the Valley City Commission and will be on the agenda for discussion during their September 19th meeting.

Last month, the Barnes County Commission and the Valley City Commission approved requests by the Valley City-Barnes County Development Corporation of $300,000 to purchase 2.6 acres of land owned by the Winter Show just east of the Regional Technology Center.

Under the plan, the front entrance of the North Dakota Winter Show Event Center would be expanded by 3,360 square feet for offices, a new ticket office and an atrium. The estimated cost of the project is $500,000.

North Dakota Winter Show manager Dawn Riley said the Winter Show board of directors approved of the building addition and required fire protection upgrades which include more fire doors and a sprinkler system.
