N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Several businesses, homes, apartments and communities are affected by a massive, ongoing power outage.

The outage occurred shortly before 12:30 PM. Otter Tail Power Company is currently working on the main transmission line located North of Jamestown on Highway 281. Manager Jeff Hoff reports that a truck struck one of the transmission lines.

“It created a domino effect,” Hoff reported. “Once that went down, several other problems popped up. All of the power relies on the transmission line. We hoped to have it up by 1, but had some phases burn off so we’re working on those too.”

Hoff says he didn’t have an estimated time that power would come back. As far as the area of the outage is concerned, Hoff says it’s a large radius.

“Rural Gackle, Streeter, Eldridge, Windsor, Medina, Montepelier and others are affected by the power outage. Once we get the main transmission line repaired, we’ll be able to get those other communities up and running,” he explained.

Hoff says they have a lot of people working on it at this time as they “try to pick up little pieces as they can.”

Traffic lights, homes and businesses may experience continued outages through the afternoon as crews continue working. Motorist are asked to use extreme caution if traveling on Highway 281 as there are reroutes in place while crews address the outages.
