CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Cardinals of Carrington traveled to Valley City on Saturday, September 16th for the 26th Annual Valley City Optimist Club Tourney. A total of 24 teams participated on six courts. The Cardinals were going for their second consecutive championship, but fell to Medina/Pingree/Buchanan in the semifinal round and finished in fourth place. Carrington is now 8-3 overall.
Carrington won pool D at the Valley City High School court number #4, beating Center-Stanton 2-0 (25-13, 25-17), splitting with May-Port/CG 1-1 (25-13, 23-25) and defeating Barnes County North 2-0 (25-10, 25-8), that earned them the number one spot and automatically moved into the quarterfinals where they beat Dickinson Trinity 2-0 (25-18, 25-12). In the semifinal round, Carrington won the first set over MPB, but the Thunder won the next two (25-16, 25-23, 15-8).
In the third place match and battle of the Cardinals, Carrington won the first set, but lost the next two to Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich (25-21, 25-23, 15-9). Langon Area/EM improved to 14-2 overall. In the championship match, Lamoure/Litchville/Marion swept MPB 2-0 (25-8, 25-12).
Next up for Carrington will be a big District V match-up with the two-time defending Class B Champs, the Loboes of Lamoure/Litchville/Marion. Prematch will start about 6:45pm on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com, first serve about 7pm on Tuesday night from Lamoure.
