Coach’s Comments

It was a windy day – 25 mph constantly with over 40mph gusts.   It was a test in resiliency.  The wind impacted how the ball acted, but it was the same for both teams.  The wind impacts the mind in tennis.  All of our players should ask themselves – did I use the wind to my advantage and did I limit the negative impact of the wind on my play and my mind?

We are a young team, so a set back in the mind game of tennis on a blustery day is to be expected…but not accepted.  We will work on resiliency and the mind game of tennis in practice.  Going through tough situations lead to growth.  I believe we will all grow from this.

Going into the match, I believed in my mind that each match was winnable except for one. In that one, Riley proved me wrong as he forced a tiebreaker at #1 singles.  This goes to show that every match is played on the court and not on paper.  Great job Riley against the runner-up at #1 singles at the West Fargo Invite.

Liam was the poster boy of resiliency at #2 singles and in doubles with Riley.  His feet were moving, his racquet was prepping, he hit each ball with confidence, and he believed he was going to win the next point every time.  I had the JV watching his match so they can see all those things along with intensity and focus at all times.  Our two senior leaders were the example today.  They need to bring that intensity and focus to practice and get our young team to their level.
