N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – The Jimmies plated 13 hits on 11 runs in the fifth and sixth innings on the way to a 15-3 win over Valley City State.

UJ scored the game’s first run on a single by Jaden Yackley(JR/Lynnwood, Wash.) in the bottom of the third. In the next half-inning, VCSU’s Emmanuel Leyva hit a two-run home run over the right field fence to put the visitors ahead 2-1. After the teams traded zeroes in their next times up to bat, the floodgates opened for Jamestown.

Run-scoring doubles by Yackley, Scooter Turin (SR/Sandy, OR), and Drake Pilat (JR/Winnipeg, MB, Canada), a two-run single from Pete Pennylegion (SR/Ferndale, WA), and a two-run blast to center field by Tyler Ludlow (SR/Port Orchard, WA) accounted for eight runs in the Jimmie fifth.

Leyva singled to left in the top of the sixth to score Grant Wehseler, making the score 9-3.

Jamestown increased their lead to 14-3 in the bottom half of the inning. Quinn Irey (SR/Bismarck, ND) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the first run of the inning, then two runs scored on a misplayed grounder off the bat of Turin. Tanner Roundy(JR/Henderson, NV) hit a sacrifice fly and Taichi Sasaki (SR/Sakai, Osaka, Japan) drove in the fifth run of the inning.

Roundy doubled in the bottom of the seventh for the Jimmies’ 15th run.

Jerome Byndloss (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.) (1-0) started for Jamestown and pitched five innings before allowing three straight singles to open the sixth. He gave up three runs on seven hits, striking out seven while walking two. Nick Torres (SR/Bremerton, WA), Beau Rabedeaux(SR/Poulsbo, WA), Dakota Nelson (JR/Dallas, OR), and Brodie Stairs(SR/Calgary, AB, Canada) each worked a scoreless inning of relief.

Shaun Kourajian went the first four innings for the Vikings and gave up one run on two hits. Tyler Kliniske (0-1) was saddled with the loss in relief of Kourajian. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning and surrendered six unearned runs on five hits.

Kory Wolden (SR/West Fargo, ND), Yackley, Pilat, and Pennylegion all had two hits for the Jimmies. Leyva and Brady Smith had two hits each for VCSU (1-1).
