FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – The National Weather Service confirms that thunderstorms that hit eastern North Dakota and Northwestern Minnesota earlier this week produced several tornadoes.

National Weather Service Survey teams report a tornado touched down on the outskirts of Beltrami, Minnesota, 18 miles south of Crookston around 8 Tuesday night. Rated an EF-1, with speeds of 105 mph, demolished a large steel building, scattering debris into a nearby field, damaged a garage and snapped off several trees. It was on the ground for about a half mile. Another EF-1 tornado briefly touched down a half hour earlier 2 miles south of Beltrami with a peak wind of 95 mph.

An EF-1 tornado with speeds up to 110 miles an hour touched down a mile northeast of Litchville, North Dakota, in Barnes County. It was on the ground for about a mile, damaging an outbuilding and uprooting spruce trees.

No injuries were reported.

The same storm system produced torrential rain in a swath across Northern Cass County into Norman County. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 7 inches were common with a report of 8.1 inches west of Hendrum, Minnesota
