VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Valley City volleyball won their first home match of October with straight sets against Wahpeton 25-17, 25-15,25-14. The Hi-Liners, who also beat The Huskies 3-0 in week 1 of the season, improve to 9-4 in The EDC and 13-10 overall.
In set 1 Valley City was up 10-4 when Wahpeton pulled within a point at 10-9. The Hi-Liners went on a scoring run to go back on top by 8 and won 25-17. The Huskies fell behind 4-0 early and never held a lead in the 2nd set. VCHS’s largest advantage was 11 points, Macy Olstad had the set point in the 25-15 win.
The Hi-Liners had to come back to win the 3rd and final set. Down by 4 they tied it at 10 and outscored Wahpeton 15-4 down the stretch for the 25-14 win. Lexi Ondracek had the match point on an ace.
Entering the second half of the conference schedule coach Jill Taylor felt it was important to reestablish the intensity that helped The Hi-Liners find early success
After Reagan Ingstad had her first assist of set 1 the match was stopped to honor the senior who surpassed 2000 assist during The Scheels Tournament. She finished the night with 28 along with 14 digs, 5 kills and 5 aces. Olstad led The Hi-Liners with 14 kills, she also collected 6 digs and a block. Mackenzie Pederson registered double figure kills scoring 10 .
Kacee White led the defense with 19 digs, Ondracek added 10. Cali Halgrimson had 7 kills and 2 aces. Josie Berntson recorded 8 assist.
Valley City is back home Thursday against Grand Forks Central. Coverage on KOVC begins around 6:50 with set 1 at 7.
