VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The “1st Annual Battle of the Badges” blood drive will be held October 18 & 19 in Valley City.

The Valley City Police Department will challenge the Valley City Fire Department to see who can get the most donations to meet the demand for blood donations.

Police Chief Phil Hatcher said this event will be like other United Blood Services blood drives in which we call on people to donate, and while they are there decide which “side” they are on. He said whatever team people decide to be on, the ultimate winner will be the side that receives the most donations. He talked about the upcoming event during a city commission meeting.

Police Chief Phil Hatcher and Fire Chief Gary Retterath are planning to personally start the donation battle by each volunteering to be the first to give blood. Gary Retterath is a regular blood donor but this will be Phil Hatchers first blood donation.

The Battle of the Badges Blood Drive will be held October 18th & 19th in the Stoudt Ross Ford showroom in Valley City from 11:30am to 6pm. The public is encouraged to donate blood and support your local police and fire departments in Valley City.
