N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Hunters opened up the 2017 pheasant season to lower numbers than in previous years thanks to major summer drought.

Game & Fish Biologist Doug Leier reports that they estimated the pheasant population to be lower when the season opened on October 7th.

Leier says individuals should still get outdoors and try their luck at bagging a few pheasants. Leier says there are still good numbers of ducks and geese. He says the drought didn’t really affect those numbers. There’s also a lot of other outdoor activities that everyone can partake in.

Leier says fall is one of the best times of the year to get outside before the first snowfall comes.
