(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High football team knew they were going to have their hands full against the defending State Class 9-Man Champions.

For one quarter, it was a tight affair. The second and third quarters were not as kind.

In the final three frames, Thompson scored 34 unanswered points en route to a 41-7 victory Saturday afternoon.

Oakes’ lone score came in the later stages of the first quarter, which ran almost six minutes off the clock, and ended with senior Tyler Voightman finding the end zone.

Nick Reck add a three yard touchdown run to start the second quarter scoring, and junior quarterback Caydn Schwabe threw two scores in the second quarter. In the third, Schwabe had a 65 yard interception return for a score and ran another one in from three yards away.

Thompson (7-2) advances to the second round on Saturday, October 21 to meet Cavalier. The Tommies lost to the Tornadoes in week one of the regular season.

Oakes’ season ends with 4-5 record.
