CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – High school band and choir students are ready to sell fruit. This heart-healthy fundraiser helps students earn individual funds to attend the New York City Heritage Festival, a music competition. Last year, the Valley City High School band and choir earned the highest rating, a gold star.

Music Booster parents are helping coordinate this fundraiser. Parents Amy Noeske, Sue Lloyd, and Brenda White are co-chairing the fundraiser again this year. They fully support this effort and know that eating fruits and vegetables has health benefits such as a decreased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and some cancers.

Many of the same options will be offered this year, including a variety of apples, oranges, grapefruit, pears, clementines, and pineapple. Due to the recent hurricanes, the citrus supply is much lower than normal, so the cost of grapefruit & oranges has increased.

Supplying the fruit is Minn-Tex, a family company based in Windom, Minnesota. Their fruit is grown in Texas, Florida, California, and Washington.

The fruit will arrive in early to mid-December. Contact your favorite band or choir student between October 17 and November 5 to order your fruit. If you don’t know a student, call the high school office at 845-0843, extension 2, to put your name on a list for a Music Booster parent to call you back to order your holiday fruit.
