VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com) – The Viking volleyball team regained control of fourth place in the NSAA standings Saturday, holding home court with a four-set victory against Presentation College.

VCSU scored the first 10 points of set four and then held on down the stretch as they picked up the conference victory by scores of 25-19, 17-25, 25-18, 25-19.

Valley City State improves to 12-10 overall and 6-5 in the North Star Athletic Association. Presentation College drops to 18-9 overall and 6-6 in the NSAA.

The Saints entered the match with a half-game lead on VCSU for fourth in the NSAA standings, but VCSU left the match with a half-game lead over the Saints. The top six teams make the NSAA Postseason Tournament. The No. 4 and No. 5 seeds will face each other in the tournament’s opening round. VCSU and Presentation College have split their two meetings this season.

The Vikings outhit the Saints .250 to .110 in the match Saturday. VCSU had eight aces and 13 service errors while the Saints had nine aces and seven serving errors. VCSU came up with 11 blocks compared to seven for the Saints.

Clarissa Olson tallied a match-high 15 kills and hit .636 for the Vikings. McKinley Putnam had 11 kills, hit .444, and had nine block assists. Autumn Johnson and Polette Medine each had seven kills, and Medina added 11 digs. Hailie Wilds led the Vikings with 14 digs and two aces. Charlotte Huschka added 10 digs, and Leah Ruter had 22 assists and two aces. Rowan Garcia posted 19 assists.

With Ruter at the service line, VCSU scored the first 10 points of the fourth set, taking a commanding lead. The Saints rallied all the way back to within one point at 13-12 before the Vikings re-grouped and put the match away.

Amber Cline led the Saints with 10 kills. Olivia Stet added seven kills. Maddie Goetz posted 15 assists and seven digs. Mallori Rabenberg served up four aces, and Joely Roe led the defense with 14 digs.
