“Willy” Noot, 88, Marion, North Dakota died suddenly October 24, 2017 in his home on the farm.

Willy was born on May 21, 1929, the son of Theodorus and Trijntje Noot. He was raised on a farm his parents purchased in 1931 in Greenland Township. He attended Greenland school, just south of the farm, through the 8th grade. After he finished school, Willy worked on the family farm with his father and brother. In December 1951, Willy was drafted into the United States Army. He served in Ft. Riley, Kansas and also West Germany. Willy visited the Netherlands many times during his service and his most recent visit was in 1980. After being discharged in 1953 he returned to Marion and has continued to farm the family farm until his death. He married Mabel Baker on November 11, 1957. Willy ran a hay moving business which he operated for over 50 years. He always enjoyed going to auctions. He also liked to deer hunt, fish and spend time trapping pocket gophers.

He is survived by his seven children, Cynthia Baasch, Hutchinson, MN, Dana (Nancy) Noot, Marion, Jay (Kimberly) Noot, Marion, Paula Noot, Pahrump, NV, Paul Noot, Bismarck, ND, Kimberly (Shawn) Wittenberg, Valley City, and Arlinda Pesek, Ypsilanti, ND; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Theodore (Delores) Noot, Jr., Marion; and one sister, Elizabeth Berge, Valley City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Anne Letcher.

The funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, October 28, 2017 at North Marion Reformed Church, rural Marion. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Friday at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, with a prayer service at 7 pm in the chapel. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church.
