LACROSSE, WIS.(VCSUVikings.com) – The Valley City State volleyball team had its 2017 season come to a close Friday in the quarterfinals of the North Stat Athletic Association Postseason Tournament.
The No 4-seeded Vikings dropped a three-set match to No. 5 seed Presentation College, 22-25, 20-25, 16-25.
Valley City State ends the season with a 15-13 overall record. It is the first time the Vikings have posted a winning record since going 16-15 during the 2006 season.
The Vikings struggled on the attack Friday, hitting just .008 as they committed 30 attacking errors while tallying 31 kills. Presentation College hit a strong .220 in the match, tallying 36 kills and just 12 errors.
Senior Polette Medina led the Vikings with team highs of nine kills and 16 digs on Friday. Megan Johnson posted six kills, and Leah Ruter had 13 assists and seven digs. VCSU totaled eight service aces in the match, including three by Rowan Garcia and two by Hailie Wilds.
Olivia Stet had a big match for the Saints with 19 kills. Joely Roe led the Saint defense with a match-high 23 digs. The Saints had their season end Friday night with a three-set loss in the semifinals against top seed Viterbo University.
Valley City State University had two players receive awards as the NSAA Volleyball Honors Banquet on Thursday night in La Crosse. Junior Clarissa Olson was named 1st Team All Conference, and senior Polette Medina was named VCSU’s Champions of Character representative
