N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It may have only been an exhibition games for the University of Jamestown men’s basketball team, but they were out to prove something against UMary on Monday night. Prove it, they did. The Jimmies won an 86-76 decision and lead by as many as 23 in the game.

It was the season opener for Joe Kittell (older brother of Jimmie football coach Josh Kittell) and his Marauders after a pair of exhibition games themselves.

Jamestown knocked down 11 triples in the first half. Sam Johnson hit five of them, while Kevin Oberweiser added four. That paced the Jimmies to a 13-point lead at half.

Leighton Sampson powered home a second half dunk and the lead went a game-high 23 at 60-37. The Marauders made a run, but never got closer than the final margin of 10.

Oberweiser lead the way with 23. Johnson added 21 and Sampson with 20.

Jamestown is back in action on Friday with another exhibition with Northern State in Aberdeen.
