CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The late Herman Stern of Valley City saved more than 125 lives from Nazis Germany death camps back in the 1930’s. His act of humanity is recognized in a documentary called “The Mission of Herman Stern.”

Barnes County Historical Society Museum Director Wes Anderson said Stern promoted North Dakota but more importantly he did what Oskar Schindler did, he saved lives.

Stern’s grandson Rick said his grandfather tried to save as many people as he could. He talked about his grandfather and the upcoming event in Valley City with reporter Steve Urness.

A screening of the film “The Mission of Herman Stern” will be held Monday, November 27th in the Vangstad auditorium on the Valley City State University campus at 7pm. The event is free and open to the public. A discussion panel will follow the screening.
