North Star Classic Cattlemen Auction Winners Announced

 

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – This year’s Grand Prize Winners during the North Star Classic Cattlemen’s Ball and Auction were Randy Huschka of Hope, ND and Bev Vollmer of Wing, ND.  Both opted to accept the cash prize of $2,500 during the December 1st event held at the Valley City Eagles Club.

Some 350 entries were reported during this year’s North Star Classic Cattle Show in Valley City December 1st – 3rd.

And this year’s livestock honoree was Cal Schaefer. Cal said he was stranded caring for cattle stranded inside the North Dakota Winter Show barn for a week during the blizzard of 1966. He said gathered whatever food he could find in the cafe and slept on the couch in the lounge. The show was postponed for one week due to the blizzard.

Schaefer is a fourth generation Barnes County resident and still live on the farm northwest of Valley City purchased by his great grandfather in 1904.
