N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Fall has left in a hurry and winter has finally settled in.

Snow fall and colder conditions have started to form ice in some parts of the state, sending an encouraging message to anglers for ice fishing. Game & Fish Biologist Doug Leier says while winter is officially here, spearfishing season has been underway since December 1st.

Leier says as far as ice formation, there are some more “acceptable” levels in certain areas for ice fishing.

He encourages anglers to check ice carefully before setting up. While ice fishing begins to take over, Leier says there are still plenty of different hunting season that will continue through part of January.
