N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Minot scored two goals 1:10 apart late in the second period on the way to a 7-2 win over Jamestown in West Region action Saturday night at John L. Wilson Arena.

The Magicians scored took a 3-0 lead after one period. Jake Viall scored his team leading sixth goal of the season to start the game. Chayse Haberman and Brett Davis added goals 2:22 apart midway through the period.

Jamestown would tally a goal 2:01 into the second period on Corey Nelson’s first career varsity goal to cut the lead to 3-1. But Nick Murphy would give the Magicians the three goal lead back two minutes later with his first career varsity goal.

Jack Plemel and Kyler Stenberg would put the game away with goals 1:10 apart late in the period to make it 6-1 heading into the final 17 minutes.

Blue Jays’ Devin Hoffman would score his team leading ninth goal midway through the third period to make it 6-2. But that would be as close as the Jays would get the rest of the way.

Zachary Pederson capped off the scoring with an empty netter with 8.1 seconds to play. He was trying to clear the puck out of his own zone during a penalty kill and the puck went the length of the ice and found the back of the net for the final tally.

Jamestown falls to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the West Region and are off until after the new year. Minot moves into a tie for second place in the west with Bismarck and Dickinson with the win. The Magicians improve to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the west region.
