JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Neither Jamestown high school team trailed Thursday night at Jerry Meyer Arena as they swept rival Valley City.The girls took the opening game 67-61 fending off a comeback by The Hi-Liners. The boys won big 78-52.

Valley City will have a quick turn around playing again Friday at home against Devils Lake while Jamestown hits the road from a non conference meeting with Fargo North Saturday afternoon. The Hi-Liner games will be on KOVC with The Blue Jays on ESPN Jamestown.

Jamestown 67 vs. Valley City 61

The Blue Jays saw their 23-1 lead in the first half get trimmed to 3 in the second half. Valley City fought back to cut the game to 35-25 at halftime and Josie Berntson nailed a 3 pointer to get as close as 47-44 with 10 minutes left in the game. In the closing minutes the game was within two possessions but some early fouls caught up with The Hi-Liners and Jamestown came away with the win.

The Blue Jays’ Megan Gaffaney collected a game high 21 points, Courtney Peterson scored 14 and Kameron Selvig chipped in 11 off the bench. For Valley City, Taryn Dieterle produced 14 points followed by Mackenzie Pederson with 13 and Lexi Ondracek and Jadyn Dieterle with 8 each.

BBB: Jamestown 78 vs. Valley City 52

Mason Walter scored 18 of his game leading 23 points in the first half. The Jays were on top 43-20 after the first 18 minutes and outscored The Hi-Liners 35-32 in the second half.

Two more from Jamestown were also in double figures, Boden Skunberg with 18 and Dawson Douty with 13. Luther Zeltinger scored 14 to pace Valley City, Riley Miller scored 10.
