(NewsDakota.com) In their first game of 2018, the Ellendale High girls basketball team earned their first Class B District 5 win of the season with a 32-16 win versus Midkota Tuesday night.

The Cardinals (5-5, 1-2 District 5) took a 10-4 lead over the Mustangs in the first quarter, and despite not scoring any points in the second quarter, had a four point lead at halftime. Ellendale outscored Midkota (0-3, 2-8) by two in the third, but pulled away for good with a 12-2 run to end the contest.

Alyssa Nishek had a game high 14 points for the Cardinals, while Joslyn Hoyt’s six points were tops for Midkota in a game that saw neither team make a three point basket.

Ellendale welcomes Carrington Thursday, with coverage on KDAK-AM 1600 and NewsDakota.com. Midkota heads to Harvey to meet Harvey/Wells County Thursday night.
