(NewsDakota.com) Nicole Schmitz had 29 points, 25 in the first half, as the Oakes High girls basketball team sailed to a 70-31 road victory against Strasburg/Zeeland Tuesday night.

The Tornadoes (6-3, 1-1 Class B District 5) started off a little slow, but managed to have a nine point lead after the first quarter; before outscoring the Clippers (1-9, 0-0 Class B District 6) 20-6 in the second quarter to pull away for good.

Sadie Hansen added another 16 points for Oakes, while Lynsey Schmitz put in another 11. The Clippers had a team high 16 points from Peyton Vander Vorst.

The Tornadoes return to Class B District 5 play Friday, when they welcome Barnes County North as part of a doubleheader with the boys. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts around 5:45, with the girls playing at 6, and the boys near 7:30 p.m.
